On another large media platform, residents in Japan are talking about how their eating patterns changed since they moved to Japan. How about you? Before I came to Japan, I bought lunch on weekdays - pasta, sandwhiches, takeout sushi.
I worked in public schools here in Japan for a while, so I got school lunch. These days, I make bento box lunch nearly every day. I find that I eat a lot less fruit and meat here than I did back home. It's much more expensive than my hometown, Canada. Also, a lot less bread - artisanal bread was a staple for me in Vancouver, but here it's rice.
As for me, I eat a lot more curry and rice than I ever did before. Before moving to Japan, I knew I liked curry but there was never that much access to it. Now I eat it usually twice a week, not only because it’s delicious, because there are so many vegetarian options of curries widely available. Also of course rice, I feel most meals include rice in Japan, so I eat a lot of rice. Before in other countries I used to eat a lot of whole wheat or brown bread. Here it’s so hard to find, I miss it. I actually feel like I eat more fruits and vegetables, because when I was a college student I had no motivation to go to the supermarket on a regular basis and now I go to the supermarket atleast once a week.
Very interesting topic.
As for me I'd say eating rice daily, especially after I started living with my Japanese partner (before I had rice, pasta and bread).
Also I've learned to use local vegetables and inserted soy bean based products into my diet.
And lastly: fish!
These are for the good parts, not so great diet changes would be drinking coffee, buying food from the convenience store too often 😂 and also not being able to eat organic products 😢
